Hi neighbors,
Thank you to everyone who filled the All Purpose Room at Glen Haven Elementary on October 1. Thanks also to Maren Hill and her team from Montgomery Planning, who came to listen to what Glenview wants from the Wheaton Master Plan.
Here’s a quick look back. The full one-page minutes are on our website.

From Montgomery Planning
Where the Wheaton Master Plan stands
A master plan is a long-range vision for the area. It guides public investment (new parks, bike lanes, Flash bus) and private development (what can be built and how tall), but it doesn’t build anything itself. The County Council gives final approval.

Draft plan goes to the Planning Board, then the County Council, with a chance for residents to testify |
After the overview, neighbors split into small tables, each with a Planning facilitator and note-taker. Planning’s notes are the record of what was said, and we’ll pass along their summary when we get it.

Missed the meeting?
You can still weigh in. Montgomery Planning’s visioning questionnaire takes about five minutes, and the listening phase runs through the end of the year.

Treasurer’s report
Where the money stands
|
~$2,500
came in this year, mostly from the Block Party
|
|
~$1,000
spent, mostly on the Block Party plus the website
|
|
~$1,000
extra to spend on signs, outreach and social events
|
Jen Marlay, our treasurer, said the goal for the money we have left is simple: help more neighbors find out GNA exists, and keep the social events going.

Sidewalks
Windham Lane is getting sidewalks
Construction has started through the county’s Safe Routes to School program, so kids, runners and bikers can reach the Sligo Creek trailhead on a sidewalk. More work is coming to other parts of the neighborhood. April Giandomenico, our president, has pushed for this for about nine years.

Environment
Byron Wild leads the environmental committee
His first focus is the runoff from downtown Wheaton that comes down the Bucknell channel into Evans Parkway Park. Litter and invasive porcelain berry are also on the list. If there’s an environmental issue you’d like the committee to take on, reply and tell us.

Sunday · 3:00 PM
Watershed walk + cider
The day after Halloween. Neighbors Justin and Byron lead a short walk through the history of the Bucknell culvert, which used to be a stream. It ends at Evans Parkway Park with cider and donuts. We’ll send the meeting spot closer to the day.

Sunday · 3:00 PM
Third annual cookie swap
Bring a batch of cookies and go home with a mix. Alex Lataille is hosting again this year, and the address will be in the invitation.

We could use a hand
Join a committee
The Social Committee is down to four people. It meets at least once a month to plan things like the Block Party and the Nov 1 walk, but you don’t have to make every meeting. Catherine and Ryan made the pitch: it’s a good way to get to know your neighbors. The environmental committee is just getting started. If you signed up at the meeting, we’ll be in touch. If you didn’t, just reply to this email.
