Watershed walk + cider
If you’ve walked Bucknell Drive, you’ve seen the concrete channel that runs alongside it. It wasn’t always a storm drain. It used to be a stream, part of the Wheaton Branch, and it still carries rain from downtown Wheaton through Evans Parkway Park, past the stormwater sites near Dennis Avenue and on into Sligo Creek.
The day after Halloween, neighbors Justin and Byron lead a short walk along the channel. Justin has been researching the history of the watershed and how the neighborhood grew up around it; Byron chairs GNA’s new Environmental Committee. Come learn what was here before the houses, why the water runs the way it does, and what the committee is thinking about for the watershed.
The walk ends at the Evans Parkway Park pavilion, where the Social Committee will have cider and donuts. Skipping the walk? Come straight to the park and say hello.
